Few days after he disclosed that the land borders would be reopened before December 31, President Muhammadu Buhari has directed the immediate opening of four land borders in Seme in the southwest, Illela in Sokoto State, Maigatari in the northwest, and Mfun in the south-south.
The Minister of Finance Budget and National Planning Mrs Zainab Ahmed, who disclosed this after the week’s virtual Federal Executive Council, FEC, meeting, also said restriction on the importation of some commodities, like rice and other products, would continue to be enforced.
The virtual FEC meeting which was president over by Vive-President Yemi Osinbajo was attended virtually by President Buhari from Daura in Katsina state, where he is still on a week visit.
Buhari had explained that the closure of the nation’s land borders was part of the efforts by the government to control the smuggling of weapons and drugs into the country.
