The industrial dispute between the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) and its workers has intensified as the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) announced plans to stage a mass solidarity rally in support of striking employees.
The rally, scheduled for Tuesday, February 3, 2026, will be held at the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) premises in Abuja.
All affiliates and state councils of the NLC and TUC in the FCT have been directed to mobilise fully for the demonstration in support of workers under the Joint Union Action Committee (JUAC).
In a joint statement, Acting General Secretary of the NLC, Comrade Benson Upah, and Secretary General of the TUC, Comrade General N.A.
Toro, said the rally aims to reaffirm the labour movement’s unity and collective resistance. “An injury to one is an injury to all, and the Nigerian labour movement will not abandon its own,” the statement read.
The labour centres reiterated their total commitment to the JUAC struggle, urging workers to remain steadfast in defending their rights.
The dispute centres on the alleged non-remittance of National Housing Fund (NHF) and pension fund deductions to the appropriate authorities, a practice the unions say contravenes the Pension Reform Act 2014.
Warning against any form of intimidation or repression, the NLC and TUC stressed that there would be “no retreat and no surrender” in the face of attempts to undermine the strike.
“History has taught us that rights are never gifted—they are won through collective resistance and principled struggle,” the statement noted.
Details regarding specific convergence points and timing for the Tuesday rally will be communicated to members through their respective affiliates.
