Late Obadiah Mailafia
Controversial former Deputy Governor of the Cnetral Bank of Nigeria, Obadiah Mailafia, is dead.
Mailafia, the 64-year-old reportedly died on Sunday morning at the National Hospital Abuja, where he was receiving treatment for an undisclosed ailment.
Luka Binniyat, spokesman of the Southern Kaduna Peoples Union (SOKAPU), confirmed Mailafia’s death in a telephone chat on Sunday.
The late Obadiah Mailafia stirred controversy after he granted an interview accusing most top government officials of sponsoring terrorism in Nigeria. Subsequently, he was under close watch of the Department of State Security Services, DSS, which invited him for questioning many times and file charges against him at the Federal High Court in Makurdi, Benue State.
He was appointed deputy governor of CBN in 2005 after a stint at the African Development Bank (AfDB) as the chief economist responsible for Strategic Planning and Corporate Reporting.
