Anthony Gordon strike in the 34th minute was enough for England to edge over Portugal as they enter the European Under-21 Championship Semi-Finals.

The Newcastle youngster  smashed home from inside the area from a Morgan Gibbs-White cutback after good work from Chelsea’s Noni Madueke.

Portugal also had their own share of chances but were denied by the woodwork.

England kept their cool and will face Israel on Wednesday. Whoever wins will make it into the final.

They needed to show defensive resilience to win in Kutaisi, as Portugal had them under pressure for long periods after the break.

Victory secured a place in the final four of the competition for the first time since 2017, and kept alive hopes of lifting a trophy they last won in 1984.

England have met Israel before in the group stage beating them 2-0 and will have lots of confidence of beating them again. England are yet to concede a goal in this tournament.
