The Central Bank of Nigeria has described as false and mischievous a Monday report by the Nation Newspaper that Governor Godwin Emefiele, has allied with the governorship candidate of the Labour Party in Lagos State , Gbadebo Rhose-Vivour to unseat the governing All Peoples Congress’s candidate and incumbent Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu in the upcoming March 18 governorship poll.
According to Acting Director of Corporate Communication of the apex bank on Monday, Isa Abdulmumini, ” The Nation Newspaper Monday, March 13, 2023 edition, alleging that the Governor, Mr Godwin Emefiele has launched a “fresh plot against President-elect,” further alleging that, “the Governor made certain amount of money available to a candidate ahead of the March 18, governorship poll, is completely false and malicious as the Governor does not know and has never met or even spoken to Mr Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour either in person or through a proxy.”
According to the newspaper in its story, “Sources said last night that the apex bank has released N500 million in new bank notes to shore up the campaign of the Labour Party (LP) in the state.
“The LP secured an upset against APC in the February 25 presidential polls in the state when its candidate, Peter Obi, polled 582,454 votes as against the 577,606 scored by Tinubu’s APC.
Alerting the public to the mischievous intent of the story, the CBD spokesman warned that the “CBN should b allowed to focus on their assigned job with a view to achieving the statutory mandate of the bank.
