The Federal Government has declared Friday, April 3, and Monday, April 6, 2026, as public holidays to mark this year’s Easter celebration, urging Nigerians to embrace the virtues of sacrifice, love and unity for national progress.
The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the announcement in a statement issued on Wednesday, extending warm congratulations to Christians in Nigeria and the diaspora on the joyous occasion.
Tunji-Ojo called on Nigerians to reflect deeply on the spiritual and moral significance of Easter, emphasising the need to imbibe values that promote harmony and nation-building.
“I congratulate all Christians in Nigeria and in the diaspora on the joyous occasion of Easter. I urge Nigerians to imbibe the virtues of selflessness, forgiveness, forbearance and love as exemplified by the life and teachings of Jesus Christ”, the minister said.
Highlighting the broader national importance of the season, the minister stressed that Easter serves as a reminder of the enduring values that bind the country together, particularly tolerance, unity and peaceful coexistence.
“Easter is a period that reminds us of the values of tolerance and community that keep us together as a nation. Nigerians should remain committed to these ideals for the progress of our country”, he added.
Tunji-Ojo also reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to policies and programmes to foster national development, economic growth and shared prosperity.
According to him, the administration remains focused on implementing decisions that will stimulate economic recovery and strengthen social cohesion across the country.
“The goal of the government remains taking decisions that would bring about national rebirth, economic growth, and shared prosperity for all Nigerians”, he stated.
The minister further wished Christians a peaceful and joyous Easter celebration, expressing optimism that the season would inspire renewed hope, unity and collective responsibility among citizens.
