The Chief Medical Director of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital, UBTH, Benin-City, Edo State in South-south, Nigeria, Professor D. E. Obaseki, has confirmed the death of one of the three oversea returnees with the Coronavirus infection, in the hospital.
He said the other two are currently, “being cared for in an isolated ward with restricted access.”
In a signed statement on Sunday, he said health care staff exposed to the patients are asymptomatic and are currently being monitored closely according to current guidelines.
While appealing for understanding from members of the public, he pledged that the management would uphold safety standards at all times to prevent spread of the disease, assuring that; “Further measures have been put in place to ensure that our staff are not unduly exposed to the risk of infection with COVID-19 in the course of their providing care to patients who come to the hospital for various reasons.”
