Abia state governor, Okezie Ikpeazu has assured the people of the state that he is stable and in high spirit, saying he is expecting to resume duties as soon as possible.
Ikpeazu stated this in a press statement issued by his chief press secretary (CPS), Barrister Onyebuchi Ememanka which was obtained by our correspondent.
He was reacting to his second COVID-19 test which returned positive yesterday, which he said was aimed at removing every doubts about his health status.
Ikpeazu, who tested positive yesterday said, “As your governor, I have the responsibility to do what is right and keep you fully updated about my health status.”
Reiterating that being COVID-19 positive is not a death sentence, he appealed to the people not to panic, but to take issues surrounding the pandemic serious.
The governor, who is now in self isolation under medical care, has therefore directed his deputy governor, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu to hold the forte in his absence.
The governor’s present status was made public by the state commissioner for Information, Chief John Okiyi Kalu early Monday morning in press statement.
“Last Thursday, Ikpeazu submitted another sample at the Nigeria Center For Disease Control (NCDC) laboratory for confirmation and the result returned positive.”
