Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi state in Northeast Nigeria has tested positive to the dreaded coronavirus. He had taken the test along with six of his aides who came to receive him in Lagos on arrival from a trip few days ago.
Except for him, the other five tests returned negative. The governor had disclosed few days ago that he met with the son of former Vice-President of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar, who had come down with the virus after returning from a business trip in the United Arab Emirate through Switzerland. He said he shook hands with Atiku’s son, Mohammed and boarded the same Aero airline flight to Abuja, the federal capital of Nigeria.
Atiku’s son had tested positive and he is in self-isolation and being treated by the NCDC/ His wife and children tested negative to test conducted on them
According to a statement by Senior Special Assistant to the governor on Media, Mukhtar Gidado, “Of the six tests carried out, one sample was confirmed positive of COVID-19. The positive result happened to be that of his Excellency, Senator Ball Abdulkadir Mohammed, the Executive Governor of Bauchi Sate.
He said, “the Governor is in self-isolation as his doctor and officials from the Nigeria Center for Disease Control, NCDC, have taken charge of his quarantine” and added that the governor appealed to “those who had contact with him or any one known to have same medical condition to go to test immediately in order to aver further spread of COVID-19”
