A day after it decline to challenge the application to unfreeze ex First Lady, Patience Jonathan’s account with Skye Bank with a balance of $5.9 balance, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Wednesday, went back on its words and secured a fresh order to freeze the account and another one she has with Ecobank, with a balance of N2.4bn, opened in the name of La Wari Furniture and Bath Limited.
Justice Mojisola Olatoregun of the Federal High Court in Lagos granted the fresh freezing order filed by EFCC lawyer Rotimi Oyedepo, on Wednesday.
Jonathan’s lawyer, Ifedayo Adedipe has appealed the ruling.
Earlier on Tuesday, the former First lady, Mrs. Patience Jonathan had been granted full access to her Skye bank account.
In a surprise move Tuesday, the Economic and Financial Crime Commission, EFCC, withdrew its application seeking to stay execution of an earlier court order that unfroze the bank account, which has a balance of $5.9 million.
EFCC lawyer, Rotimi Oyedepo, had approached the Lagos High Court, presided over by Justice Mojisola Olatoregun and said the Commission had changed its mind about appealing the court order that unfroze the account and was withdrawing the application to stay execution of the order.
Mr Ifedayo Adedipe, Mrs Jonathan’s lawyer disclosed that he had been served the application by the EFCC.
Justice Olatoregun, after hearing their submissions, granted their prayers to withdraw their respective applications.
