Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State
The Kogi state Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello on Tuesday presented a budget proposal of N130,546,068,026 for year 2021 to the State House of Assembly for consideration and subsequent approval.
The Budget tagged “Budget of Accelerated Recovery” has an increase of N7,575,110,017 or 6.16% when compared with the year 2020 budget.
The total budget outlay of N130.54 billion is divided into Recurrent Expenditure of N74,047,160,482 representing 56.72% and Capital Expenditure of N56,498,907,544 representing 43.28%.
The Governor in his budget speech, appreciated the people of the state for their collective efforts in ensuring unity and security of lives and property of citizens which had gone a long way in enhancing accelerated development in the state.
“We will as people oriented government continue to do more within the state’s limited resources” Bello assured.
The Governor however, regretted the disastrous effect of COVID-19 on the year 2020 budget.
In his welcome address, the Speaker of Kogi State House of Assembly, Right Honourable Matthew Kolawole gave an assurance for continued cordial relationship between the executive and legislative arms of government in the state to facilitate the needed development.
The speaker commended Governor Bello for his role in the implementation of the financial autonomy to the State House of Assembly.
Kolawole however, seeked the Governor’s approval for monthly subvention to the state assembly to boost its operation.
He lamented the economic crisis that triggered in the state as a result of COVID-19 pandemic which informed the approval of N20 billion supplementary budget for the executive arm of government last month.
