The Police has confirmed death of eleven Katsina citizens in suspected bandits attack in Gurbi Village in Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State on Sunday.
The deadly attack occurred at about 2:40 p.m. when heavily armed men stormed the village and opened fire on unsuspecting residents, causing panic and confusion among locals.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, confirmed the incident, saying that security agencies responded swiftly following a distress call from the area.
He said the attackers killed several residents on the spot before fleeing as a joint security team comprising police operatives, military personnel, and other security agencies advanced toward the community.
“The assailants fled as security forces closed in on the scene,” the police spokesman stated.
Sadiq-Aliyu explained that the injured victims were immediately evacuated to a nearby hospital for urgent treatment, while the deceased were buried according to Islamic rites.

The police command further disclosed that additional tactical teams had been deployed to Gurbi Village and adjoining communities to strengthen security and prevent further attacks.
According to the command, intensified patrols, surveillance operations, and intelligence gathering are ongoing across Kankara Local Government Area as part of efforts to restore public confidence and safeguard lives and property.
Sadiq-Aliyu also noted that the Commissioner of Police had directed closer collaboration between security agencies and community leaders to improve information sharing and enhance rapid response to security threats.
He assured residents that efforts were ongoing to track down the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
“Efforts are ongoing to track down the perpetrators of the heinous act,” he said.
The command urged residents to remain vigilant and law-abiding while supporting security agencies with timely and credible information on suspicious persons or activities within their communities.
Kankara Local Government Area has remained one of the flashpoints of insecurity in Katsina State, with several rural communities repeatedly targeted by armed bandits involved in killings, kidnappings and cattle rustling.
Despite sustained military offensives and police operations across the North-West region, attacks on vulnerable communities have continued to pose serious security concerns.
Authorities, however, insist that ongoing joint operations and increased deployment of security personnel are yielding positive results in several affected areas, with renewed determination to dismantle criminal networks operating within the state.
