APC Governors Back Buhari On Election Of Officials

After repeated meetings that stretched into hours and taxed their wits, governors elected on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, today announced their unanimous support for the position of President Muhammad Buhari regarding the tenure elongation of the party National Working Committee members of the party.

Zamfara governor , Abdulkadir Yari, said that after repeated consultations among themselves and then with the President, the governors decided collectively to support Buhari’s position that the earlier, February 27 tenure elongation of the party officials was unconstitutional and illegal, urging the party to follow the dictates of article 17 of its party and the Constitution of the country which makes for elections of officials for defined terms of office.

“We followed up with consultation with the president and also with other governors and we agreed collectively to align with the position of the President to move the party forward”, he said, adding that, “with the Governor Simon Lalong Committee yesterday set up by National Chairman, Odigie Oyegun to reconcile the differences over the issue would submit its report today, we would meet to reconcile positions and take a decision.”

Supporting his position, Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State said the decision was taken “as one family to move the party forward in 2019”
