An All Progressive Congress (APC) leader in Abia State, Chief Ikechi Emenike has accused a fellow member, Prince Benjamin Apugo of allegedly receiving N20m from Governor Okezie Ikpeazu to distabalize the party.
This was contained in statement issued and signed by the Publicity Secretary of the party, Engr Mike Ozoemena, which was obtained by our correspondent in Umuahia, the state capital on Friday.
Ozoemena, who said Apugo had been secretly hobnobbing with Ikpeazu added that he received the money when the governor visited him in his house along Bende Road in the capital recently.
“Apugo is an attention seeker and not worthy of High Chief Ikech Emenike’s time. He collected a whopping twenty million Naira from Governor Ikpeazu, during the governor’s visit to his house.”
Apugo had on Wednesday in an interview with an online media accused Emenike of being sponsored by the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state to destabilize the party.
Alleging that Apugo had been claiming to be a member of a non-existent Board of Trustees (BoT) of the party, he maintained that the business mogul was working against the progress of the party.
“He is the one being sponsored along with his children to destabilize the party to make it easy for Okezie Ikpeazu and the PDP to retain the governorship seat of the state come 2019,” said Ozoemena.
He said much as they would not want to glorify Apugo with a response, they will not fail to let the public know that he had been pleading severally with Emenike for a meeting which the latter had declined.
“We will also want to bring to the notice of the public Apugo’s double dealings with the PDP and Ikpeazu. The public should recall that on several occasions he and the governor have had meetings in his house,” he noted.
“We want to remind him that we know all his dealings and decided to keep quiet not because we are not aware but we wanted to give him time to rethink his disgraceful actions aimed at sabotaging the fortunes of the party in the coming elections.
“We advise him that an elder is someone who should have some integrity in him and makes peace where there is crisis but rather, he reaps out of crisis and such actions and behaviours are not befitting of one who addresses himself as an elder.”, Ozoemena concluded in his statement
