The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, is dead, aged 83. He reportedly died at teh Afe Babalola University Teaching Hospital in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti state where he had gone for his regular check-up, on Friday.
Lamidi Adeyemi succeeded Alaafin Gbadegesin Ladigbolu II in 1970, meaning he spent roughly 52 years on the throne.
He was survived by about 13 wives and many children.
As of the time of publishing this report, the Oyo State government has directed the head of the Oyo Mesi, kingmakers, to take over pending the election and appointment of a successor, while the royal prince has received the corpse at the palace in Oyo.
