The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed that eight out of 14 pre-qualified political associations have completed the upload of all required documentation as part of ongoing efforts toward their registration as political parties in Nigeria.
The INEC National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, on Thursday,said the update followed an earlier briefing of September 11, 2025, on the continuous registration process for new political parties.
According to the Commission, the associations successfully met the deadline for uploading their documents on the dedicated online portal between September 18 and October 18, 2025.
The development comes after INEC held a briefing session with the affected associations on September 17 to guide them through the digital submission procedure.
The eight groups that met the requirements include All Democratic Alliance (ADA), Citizens Democratic Alliance (CDA), Abundance Social Party (ASP), African Alliance Party (AAP), Democratic Leadership Alliance (DLA), Green Future Party (GFP), National Democratic Party (NDP) and People’s Freedom Party (PFP).
INEC disclosed that the next phase of the process will involve a thorough verification exercise to confirm the authenticity and compliance of the submitted documents with legal provisions, including the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (1999, as amended), the Electoral Act 2022, and relevant guidelines.
“This stage will ensure conformity with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), the Electoral Act 2022, and the Commission’s Regulations and Guidelines for Political Parties”, the statement read.
The electoral body assured that the exercise will be guided by principles of fairness and transparency, adding that its procedures are designed to support political diversity while upholding democratic standards.
INEC reiterated its commitment to promoting inclusivity, accountability, and deepening the nation’s democratic culture, noting that political party registration procedures remain an essential part of strengthening Nigeria’s multi-party system.
The Commission is expected to announce the outcome of the verification process after concluding its assessment of the submissions.
