The nomination of Chief Nwogu Nna Nwogu as the member representing Abia state on the board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has received the endorsement of an All Progressive Congress (APC) leader in the state, Engr. MacSolomon Alozie.
Alozie stated this while reacting to a call by a factional Publicity Secretary of the APC in the state, Mr. Ben Godson on President Muhammadu Buhari to reject the nomination on the ground that Nwogu is not known to them in Umuahia, the capital.
The member representing the South East on the board of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) said the call is baseless, distracting, and most unreasonable, adding that as medical practitioners will say, it is dead on arrival to say the least.
According to him, “what Godson and his cohorts should have done if they meant well for the oil producing communities and the state is to catalogue the challenges of the communities and pass them to the nominee to present to the board.”
He expressed worry that the call will not only create disharmony between the nominee’s community and the others, but will also render the state’s seat on the board temporarily vacant with its attendant consequences on the communities and the state.
Alozie, who is also a non-executive director of the REA, therefore expressed appreciation to President Muhammadu Buhari for his recent approval of the board, assuring that the nominee, with his wealth of experience will make positive contributions to it.
Godson, in the call had insisted that occupant of the position must be familiar and knowledgeable with the plights of the communities, adding that, “Our position is very simple. Nwogu is unfit to occupy such office.”
However, the publicity secretary, who failed to explain the basic requirements for the position appealed to the presidency to “allow the people of the state to field competent person as Abia representative on the NDDC board.”
President Buhari had on last Tuesday approved the appointment of the 16-man member board with Dr. Pius Odubu, the ex-deputy governor of Edo State as the chairman and Nwogu as the representative of the state.
