Chairman of the state chapter of the People Democratic Party in Plateau State, Damishi Sango yesterday held a closed door meeting with all 44 chairmanship and 446 Councillorship aspirants vying to contest for positions in the17 Local Governments on the platform of the party and gave special consideration to women and the physically challenged.
They were given free nomination form in a gesture the party said is meant to encourage them to participate actively in politics.
The Former Minister of Sports and Youth Development during the meeting in Jos expressed confidence that PDP will sweep the 17 LG election scheduled to hold on February17, 2018 if the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, can conduct a free and fair election.
Sango explained that that party was working according to the plans unfolded by PLASIEC amidst rumours that the date would be postponed, saying ” we as a political party will participate going by the PLASIEC guidelines of the electoral act which the electoral umpire has given us the time table.”
He refused to be dragged into the rumour and maintained that the PLASIEC chairman, Mr Fabian Ntung “is a retired permanent secretary so he cannot do anything that is capable of denting his image.
“We have confidence in him so I don’t think someone there can use him to deceive Plateau citizens. Ntung cannot allow somebody to mess him up so we all belief this election will hold.
He said the PDP is well prepared “as you can see the level of preparation, today (Thursday) we held a meeting with all the aspirants to educate and enlighten them on tolerance and forgiveness in case any of them fail to get the ticket in the forthcoming primaries but to remain resolute and work for the victory of their party.
