A pressure group, Edo Indigenous Forum, has been unveiled in Abuja to strengthen the bond of identity, heritage and shared responsibility among Edo sons and daughters.
At the unveiling ceremony in Bwari, Abuja, on Saturday, the group’s President, Dr Mohammed Alokhose, said the forum will also organize annual Edo day in October First of every year, starting from next year to preserve heritage.
Dr Alokhose stated, the forum is intended to provide a common platform for Edo sons and daughters to connect, support one another and contribute meaningfully to the advancement of their people.
“The journey to this assembly started in January 2026 and it has involved consultations, meetings, visits, planning, sacrifices and commitment of many people”, he noted.
Dr Mohammed Alokhose, who is also the Country Director, International Youth Development Forum for Peace building and Empowerment Foundation, Nigeria, stated that membership is open to persons of Edo heritage and those connected to Edo by parentage or marriage and are committed to the unity, progress and development of their communities and people.
In a speech, the Chairman of the occasion, Snr High Chief Patrick Alegieuno, commended the group for its noble gesture aimed at promoting peace, love, unity and solidarity among Edolites in FCT. He pledged support for the annual Edo day in Abuja to showcase rich culture and traditions of Edo people.
Goodwill messages affirming their support were received from the Emir of Bwari; the immediate past Chairman of Bwari Area Council, Mr John Gabaya, and the APC House of Reps candidate for Bwari/AMAC; reps of NDC candidate; Snr High Chief Peter Dokpesi, the Onogie I of Edo, Dutse Alhaji; CEO of Nino Hotel and Amb Okpebholo.
Other prominent Leaders from Edo at the occasion include High Chiefs Patrick Iyama, Peter Enike Oleghe, Moses Ichoji and their wives, Mr Frank Akhigbe, Lady Franca and Amb Barth Ikiebe, the Media adviser to Onogie of Dutse.
Cultural dances from Ososo, Benin and Ishan entertained the guests with superlative performance.
