The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a planned 10-hour power outage in parts of Ondo State to facilitate critical maintenance and network upgrade works at its Ondo 132/33kV Transmission Substation.
The company’s General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, TCN said the scheduled outage would take place on Tuesday, June 30, from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., during which electricity supply to Ondo Town and Okitipupa would be temporarily disrupted.
According to the statement, the outage is necessary to enable TCN engineers to transfer the Ife–Ondo 132kV transmission line from the proposed Omotosho–Ondo 132kV transmission line bay to the Ife–Ondo 132kV line bay, a key component of ongoing efforts to strengthen the transmission network.
The company added that engineers would simultaneously commission a newly installed 60MVA 132/33kV power transformer at the Ondo transmission substation, a development expected to improve the capacity and reliability of electricity supply in the affected areas.
TCN explained that the planned work would temporarily prevent the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) from receiving bulk power from the transmission station, making it impossible for the distribution company to supply electricity to customers in Ondo Town and Okitipupa throughout the 10-hour maintenance period.
The transmission company described the exercise as essential to enhancing the operational efficiency of the power infrastructure and ensuring improved service delivery to electricity consumers in the long term.
It appealed to residents, businesses and other electricity users in the affected communities to bear with the temporary inconvenience, assuring them that the interruption was necessary to complete the upgrade works safely and efficiently.
“TCN apologises for any inconvenience this will cause electricity consumers in the affected areas”, the statement read.
