Algeria and Austria produced one of the most unforgettable matches of the 2026 FIFA World Cup group stage after playing out a dramatic 3-3 draw in their final Group J fixture at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City.
With qualification to the Round of 32 at stake, both sides delivered a pulsating contest filled with momentum swings, moments of brilliance and an astonishing stoppage-time finale that ensured they progressed together from the group.
Austria struck first in the 28th minute through Marko Arnautovic. David Alaba’s long delivery caught the Algerian defence off guard, allowing the veteran striker to race clear before calmly finishing past goalkeeper Oussama Benbot for his second goal of the tournament.

The result ensured both nations advanced to the Round of 32, with Algeria finishing their group campaign unbeaten while Austria also secured passage after a spirited performance.
Algeria will now prepare for a difficult knockout clash against Switzerland, while Austria face Group H winners Spain as the tournament enters its decisive phase.
Although neither side claimed all three points, the encounter will be remembered as one of the standout spectacles of the group stage, showcasing the unpredictability and drama that continue to define the expanded 2026 FIFA World Cup.
