Terrorists invaded a residence in Egbe, Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State and abducted a woman, her infant child and three other members of a family during an attack late Wednesday.
Troops of the 12 Brigade Nigerian Army under 2 Division Nigerian Army, however, rescued two of the victims following a swift response operation launched after the incident.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 12 Brigade Nigerian Army, Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi, the attack occurred near Solid Rock School in the Ijalu area of Egbe on June 3, 2026.
The abducted victims included Mrs Adekemi Idowu, her six-month-old child and three other family members.
The Army said troops immediately mobilised after receiving a distress report and, in conjunction with members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), launched a pursuit operation along the terrorists’ withdrawal route.
The statement said sustained pressure mounted by the combined security team forced the terrorists to abandon Mrs Idowu and her infant child near the Oro axis before fleeing into the surrounding area.
“The rescued victims were safely returned to their residence, while troops have continued aggressive search operations aimed at rescuing the remaining victims and apprehending the perpetrators”, the statement noted.
The military added that operations are ongoing to secure the release of the remaining abducted victims and track down the perpetrators.
The Nigerian Army reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property and urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to support security operations.
Kogi State and parts of Nigeria’s North-Central region have continued to record incidents of kidnapping and attacks by armed groups, prompting increased security operations across affected communities.
