The Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in-charge of Kogi state, Shehu Abdulwahab has announced the commencement of Voters E-registration exercise in the state with an appeal to eligible voters to avoid the temptation of multiple registration.
The REC announced this while briefing journalists on the lined up activities for the exercise at the INEC headquarters in Lokoja on Monday.
Abdulwahab who warned eligible voters against multiple registration advised that they should available themselves of the opportunity to participate effectively as the exercise is expected to end in July 10th, 2026.
He said that the exercise remains open to all eligible voters to embark on new registration, voters transfer for those who have moved to another environment, data correction by rectifying errors, PVC replacement and collection of uncollected PVCs amongst others.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner further explained that double registration of voters would do more harm than good as there could be the possibility of such names being thrown out of the computer system.
Abdulwahab disclosed that INEC has mapped out rotational registration strategy that would involve mobile registration team to record a huge success of the exercise.
He recalled that the first phase of the E-registration exercise which took place between August to November, 2025 had a total number 114, 580 successful registration activities while the second phase that occurred from 2nd January to April, 2026 recorded 164,193 registration activities.
Abdulwahab enumerated the challenges encountered by INEC during the first and second phases of the E-registration exercise to include; network problem, last minute rush for the exercise and geographical barriers assuring that arrangements have been concluded to overcome the trend.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner promised to continue to partner the Media in carrying out INEC constitutional programmes.
