The All Progressives Congress has excluded Rivers State, the Federal Capital Territory, Osun, and Ekiti states from its forthcoming ward congresses while extending its nationwide electronic membership registration exercise to February 8, 2026.
The decision was announced in a statement on Friday, January 30, 2026, by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, following a meeting of the National Working Committee in Abuja.
The committee clarified that Osun, Ekiti, and the FCT were excluded due to off-cycle and local elections scheduled in those areas later this year. Rivers State was omitted because the current executive committees are still serving out their legally recognized tenures.
The extension of the membership registration, which was originally set to conclude on January 31, is intended to give new and existing supporters more time to validate their digital profiles.
Ward congresses are now scheduled to take place nationwide on Wednesday, February 18, 2026. These local contests will be followed by a National Convention fixed for March 27 and 28, 2026, where new national leadership will be elected.
The party has also constituted a National Convention Planning Committee to begin preparations for the March gathering.
Felix Morka noted that the adjusted timetable and the full list of committee members will be released to the public shortly.
He urged party members to utilize the extended registration window to ensure they are eligible to participate in the upcoming internal elections.
This update follows the recent high-profile defection of the Kano State Governor to the party, which has accelerated the drive for a comprehensive digital membership register.
