President Bola Tinubu has assured Nigerians of his administration’s unwavering commitment to security, unity and the protection of religious freedom across the country.
In his 2025 Christmas goodwill message released on Wednesday, the President congratulated Christians in Nigeria and around the world on the celebration of Christmas, urging citizens to reflect on the enduring values of love, peace, hope and goodwill symbolised by the birth of Jesus Christ.
Tinubu described Jesus Christ as the Prince of Peace, noting that the Christmas season offers Nigerians an opportunity to strengthen mutual understanding and peaceful coexistence, particularly among people of different religious beliefs.
He thanked God for the opportunity to serve as President and prayed for peace in Nigeria, stressing that his government remains committed to ensuring that all citizens, regardless of faith or ethnicity, can live, worship and pursue their aspirations in safety and dignity.
“As your President, I remain committed to doing everything within my power to enshrine religious freedom in Nigeria and to protect all people of different faiths from violence”, Tinubu said.
The President acknowledged the contributions of Christians to national development, commending individuals and groups inspired by the teachings of Christ who continue to care for the vulnerable, uplift the less privileged and promote peace, tolerance and harmony in their communities.
Reflecting on the nation’s security challenges, Tinubu reiterated that since assuming office in 2023, his administration has consistently reassured Nigerians of its resolve to safeguard the unity, stability and security of the country in line with the Constitution.
He emphasised that no Nigerian should be made to suffer for professing or practising his or her faith, adding that shared values of love for God and humanity remain central to all major religions and must continue to bind the nation together.
Tinubu disclosed that throughout the year, he had engaged leaders of Nigeria’s major faiths, particularly amid concerns over religious intolerance and insecurity. He pledged to build on these engagements to strengthen collaboration between government and religious institutions, prevent conflict and promote peaceful coexistence.
As Nigerians travel to reunite with family and loved ones during the festive season, the President urged motorists to exercise patience and discipline on the roads, wishing all travellers safe journeys and safe returns.
