The South East Governors Forum proscribed the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) to end its security challenges to the country and over 12 million Ndigbo said to be living in the northern states.
Abia State Governor Okezie Ikpeazu said this when he visited the secretariat of the state chapter of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Umuahia to symphatize with them over its recent invasion by soldiers.
Ikpeazu said as the most-Nigerian of the ethnic nationalities in the country, it is incumbent upon their leaders to act in manners that would not in any way truncate the peace and unity of the country.
” We are the most-travelled Nigerians with billions of assets across every nook and cranny of the country. We must work with the other nationalities to ensure the protection of the lives and property of the people,” he said.
The governor extolled the journalists for their sense of maturity during the period and expressed happiness that the invasion which witnessed assault on them and the destruction of their tools was without loss of lives.
He said the recent face-off between soldiers and members of the IPOB in the state came at a time when many domestic and international investors, and stakeholders were looking at its economy with interest.
Speaking earlier, the Chairman of the chapter, Comrade John Emejor condemned the invasion in very strong terms, describing it as an infringement on the members’ right and a desecreation of the secretariat
He remind the governor that the council is the only one in the country operating from a rented apartment, appealing to him to assist them in completing their secretariat project which was began by the past administration.
