President General, Okaiuga Nkwoegwu Improvement Union (ONIU), Sir Obi Aguocha has accepted the challenge to partner the women’s wing to build a N10m shopping complex at the town’s civic centre.
Aguocha stated this while speaking to our correspondent after attending the 2017 August Conference of the wing at Okaiuga Nkwoegwu Central School, in Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia state.
He argued that when completed, the complex, which will be located at about five kilometers from the centre of the state capital, Umuahia, would bring development nearer to the town and create employment for the people.
“This will be part of our contributions to the development of the town by providing conducive business environment for the people and job opportunities for the unemployed,” according to the president general.
The chairman of the occasion, Comrade Uzormba Ekwuruibe had while declaring it open called on the wing to consider the inclusion of the proposed complex in its plan to rehabilitate the about-15 year old complex.
He lauded the wing and other sons and daughters of the town “who have made streets and roads in Okaiuga Nkwoegwu come alive with street lights, boreholes and asphalted drainage as obtains in big cities”
Similarly, traditional rulers of Umuosu, Umuohuru, and Egwunaeleke Autonomous Communities in the town, Eze Nzewata Mbakwe ,Bobby Aguocha, and Benson Akabuike respectively extolled the wing for its developmental orientation.
Delegates from Lagos, Aba, and Port Harcourt, Madams Miriam George Ajiero, Charity Mbakwe, and Udo Valery Oriaku, respectively, described the conference as a period for value reorientation, articulation and evaluation.
Presenting a giant trophy for competition in match-pass among villages in the communities, the Councillor representing Okaiuga Nkwoegwu Ward in the area council, Hon Eberechi Odumuko sued for peace among the people.
In her address of welcome, the National Chairperson of the wing, Dame Chinyere Ubani said the conference had afforded them a forum to discuss on how to contribute to the socio-economic development of the town.
The four-day conference which included lectures, visitation, social activities and launch of the wing’s 2018 Calendar, was rounded up with a church service at the Eternal Sacred Order of Cherubim and Seraphim, Nkata Alaike.
