The United States Government has directed visa applicants in Nigeria to provide details of all social media usernames or handles they have used in the last five years on the DS-160 visa application form.
The directive, which forms part of the U.S. Department of State’s enhanced screening measures aimed at strengthening national security, was announced on Monday via the official Facebook page of the U.S. Mission in Nigeria.
According to the Mission, applicants who fail to disclose the required information risk visa denial and possible ineligibility for future applications.
“Visa applicants are required to list all social media usernames or handles of every platform they have used from the last five years on the DS-160 visa application form.
“Applicants certify that the information in their visa application is true and correct before they sign and submit. Omitting social media information could lead to visa denial and ineligibility for future visas,” the statement read.
