Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, on Monday returned to Nigeria after a brief vacation in London, dismissing rumours about his health.
Akpabio arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, at about 4:00 a.m. and was received at the Presidential Wing by senators, aides, and supporters.
His return ends weeks of speculation that he was critically ill and receiving treatment in a London hospital.
The Senate President had attended the Sixth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament in Geneva between July 29 and 31, before proceeding to London for what he described as “a short vacation.”
Speaking with journalists on arrival, he said: “There’s nothing like such. I’m fit as a fiddle. I only stopped over in London for a short vacation.”
Akpabio also defended the size of Nigeria’s delegation to the Geneva conference, noting that it was aimed at strengthening democratic governance and fostering collaboration with other parliaments.
He assured Nigerians of robust legislative activities when the Senate reconvenes and pledged continued cooperation with the executive and judiciary.
