Dr Akinwumi Adesina, the outgoing president of the African Department Bank (AfDB) has paid glowing tribute to late Kabiyesi Ọba Sikiru Kayọde Adetọna the Awùjalẹ̀ of the Ijẹbu Kingdom.
Oba Adetona died on Sunday, aged 91.
On his verified X platform handle, Dr Akinwumi Adesina described Oba Adetona as an embodiment of integrity, leadership, dedication and inspiration whose reign for over 60 years brought peace to Ijebuland, Ogun State and beyond.
He said, “I am deeply saddened by the passing of Kabiyesi Ọba Sikiru Kayọde Adetọna the Awùjalẹ̀ of the Ijẹbu Kingdom. Enthroned on April 2, 1960, he was one of the longest serving and most respected traditional rulers in Nigeria”
Dr Akinwumi Adesina stated that “Kabiyesi Adetọna ruled with strong commitment, remarkable dedication and impressive service, ensuring peace, unity, stability and progress cross Ijebuland and Ogun State”
He described the Kabiyesi’s passing as a huge loss to the people of Ijebu, Ogun State and Nigeria and prayed that God should comfort his family and the people of Ijebuland and the government of Ogun State.
“May Kabiyesi’s soul rest in peace,” he added.
