Retired Police Officers of the Kogi State Command have demanded for their removal from the contributory pension scheme
The association of retired police officers, Kogi State chapter made the appeal during their interactive meeting with the commissioner of police, Miller Dantawaye at the Command’s Headquarters in Lokoja yesterday.
The delegation led by CSP Abdullahi Ibrahim (Rtd) and ASP Shaibu Oke (Rtd), disclosed that the current contributory pension scheme is not sustainable and cumbersome to adequately take care of their needs for survival.
The group also called for the establishment of Police Pension Board to bring all Police retirees under one umbrella and full payment of gratuity to retirees under the contributory pension scheme (CPS)
They expressed their profound gratitude for the warm reception and the rare opportunity to interact directly with the CP describing the meeting as historic, noting that CP Dantawaye is the first Commissioner of Police in the State to grant them such audience, a privilege they cannot take for granted.
The Commissioner of Police while speaking during the interactive session, commended the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun for his unwavering commitment in improving the welfare of both serving and retired officers.
He disclosed that IGP has completed payment of all outstanding claims for Officers who died in active service.
The CP urged the retired Officers to use the formal channels to air their grievances, rather than resorting to public platforms.
He told the delegation that IGP is also concerned about the general complaint on the pension for police officers and has been engaging at the highest level to ensure that, Police officers are happy in retirement.
