NGE Convention Elects New Leadership, Eze Anaba Gets Fresh Mandate


 

The Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) on Friday elected new officers to pilot the affairs of the Guild for the next two years, re-electing Mr. Eze Anaba as President during its 2025 Biennial Convention held at the International Conference Centre, Enugu.

Anaba, who is the Editor-in-Chief of Vanguard Newspaper, was returned unopposed, securing a second term as president of the union.

Also elected was the Managing Director of The Sun Newspaper, Onuoha Ukeh, who emerged as General Secretary after polling 218 votes to defeat Wole Sogunle and Qasim Akinreti, who garnered 45 and 30 votes respectively.

In the race for Deputy President, Sabastine Abu polled 175 votes to defeat Mohammed Sunusi Jubrin, who secured 110 votes.

Other elected officers included Kabir Alabi, Hamza Idris, and Sheddy Ozoene as Vice Presidents.

Iyobosa Uwugiaren was elected Treasurer , defeating Boma Nwuke with 176 to 115 votes, while Gabriel Fulajimi Akinadewo clinched the position of Assistant Secretary. Charles Kalu was returned as Publicity Secretary.

Members elected into the Standing Committee from the various zones across the country included Umoru Ibrahim, who polled 298 votes and Paulyn Ugbodaga, who scored 122 votes to represent North; Rose Moses who polled 225 votes, Olabisi Deji-Folutile who got 140 votes and Juliet Bumah who scored 155 votes, to represent West; Chinedu Max Egere, who polled 128 votes and Ikpong Essien-Udoh who got 152 votes, to represent East.

Generally this is how the voting for the contested positions stood: Deputy P President= Mohammed Sanusi Jubril 110/  Dr. Sebastian Abu 175 invalid 8 – Winner = Sebastian Abu

General Secretary =Qassim Akinreti 30/ Wole Sogunle 45/ Ukeh Onuoha 218

Treasurer =Bona Nwuke 114/ Dr. Iyobosa Uwugiaren 176

Standing Committee, East = Dan Isute 107/ Max Egere 128/ Lawrence Mpama 116/Ikpong Essien -Udoh152 / invalid votes, 70.

SC West =Rose Moses 225/ Olabisi Deji- Folutile 140/ Yemi Adebisi 125/ Juliet Bumah 155/ invalid votes 193

SC North = Gbenga Adeshina 106/Ibrahim Umaru 198/ Paulyn Ugbodaga 122/ Raliat Yusuf 89.

The entire team comprises, Mr Eze Anaba – President; Abu Sabastine Mohammed (Deputy President), Kabir Alabi (VP West), Sheddy Ozoene (VP East), Hamza Idris (VP North), Onuoha Ukeh (General Secretary), Gabriel Akinadewo (Assistant Secretary), Iyobosa Uwugiaren (Treasurer), Charles Kalu (Social/Publicity Secretary), Rose Moses, Juliet Bumah, Olabisi Deji-Folutile, Umoru Ibrahim, Paulyn Ugbodaga, Chinedu Max Egere and Ikpong Essien-Udom (all ex-officio members).

The convention, which drew about 400 editors from across the country, was declared open by the Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Mbah.

The event was graced by distinguished media veterans including Channels TV founder, Dr. John Momoh; former Ogun State Governor, Chief Segun Osoba; ex-NDDC Chairman, Chief Onyeama Ugochukwu; and former presidential spokesman, Femi Adesina.
