The Lagos State Government has issued a traffic advisory detailing major diversions across key routes in Victoria Island ahead of the 50th anniversary celebration of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
The milestone event, which runs from May 27 to 29, is expected to attract regional leaders, diplomats, and key stakeholders as the sub-regional bloc reflects on five decades of economic integration, development, and cooperation across West Africa.
ECOWAS Chairman and Nigeria’s President, Bola Tinubu, is expected to arrive in Lagos on Tuesday to participate in the commemorative activities.
According to a statement signed by Bolanle Ogunlola, Deputy Director of Public Affairs at the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation, the traffic management plan aims to facilitate smooth vehicular movement and enhance security around Eko Hotels and the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA), which are key venues for the celebrations.
Motorists heading from the Eko Hotel Roundabout towards Lagos Island or the mainland are advised to take Adetokunbo Ademola Road to Civic Centre, link up with Ozumba Mbadiwe, and proceed to Bonny Camp Roundabout before heading to their destinations.
Alternatively, drivers can access the mainland or Lagos Island via the Falomo ramp near the Nigerian Law School.
For those exiting Ajose Adeogun or Adetokunbo Ademola through the Eko Hotel Roundabout, the advisory recommends taking Sanusi Fafunwa to Akin Adesola.
From there, motorists can turn left to access Ahmadu Bello Way or Adeola Odeku, or turn right to link up with the Falomo Bridge or Law School route.
Guests departing the Lagos Continental Hotel en route to Bonny Camp are advised to use Kofo Abayomi to reach the Kilimanjaro Junction on Ozumba Mbadiwe, with options to turn left to Bonny Camp or right towards Lekki.
Inbound traffic from Bonny Camp to Kofo Abayomi is advised to turn right at Kilimanjaro Junction to access the Lagos Continental Hotel.
Commuters from Independence or McEwen Bridge are directed to turn left at the IMB Building on Ahmadu Bello Way by Atlantic City, then proceed to Akin Adesola and use inner streets to reach Eko Hotel.
To minimize disruptions, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) will deploy traffic personnel along the affected corridors throughout the event.
