Market activities on the floor of Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) closed on a negative note on Monday August 28, as key market indicators decreased by 0.90 percent bringing the year to date returns to 35.14 percent.
The All Share Index closed at 36,317.31 against the previous close of 36,646.46 while Market Capitalization closed at N12.518 trillion against previous close of N12.631 trillion. Volume traded decreased by 17.60 percent from 422.449 million to 348.113 million.
The total value of stock traded decreased by 8.36 percent from N3.249 billion to N2.977 billion in 3,276 deals, while the Financial Services sector led the activity chart with 291.611 million shares exchanged for N1.639 billion.
Oil And Gas came next with 28.541 million shares traded for N0.253 billion, Consumer Goods, Conglomerates while the services sectors followed in that order on the activity chart. Custodian & Allied Insurance Plc, Oando Plc, Access Bank Plc, Fidelity Bank and Sterling Bank were the most active stocks by volume.
Total Nigeria Plc, Air Service, Cutix Nigeria Plc, Vitafoam Nigerian Plc and Continental Re-Insurance emerged the highest price gainers. While Transexpress, Mobile Oil Nigerian Plc, Conoil Oil Plc, Champion Breweries and Livestock topped the loser’s table.
However, 89 companies shares were traded, with 9 gainers and 30 losers, and 50 shares prices did not move.
