The Nigerian Police Force has debunked reports making the round that armed gunmen invaded the construction site of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) at Obajana in Kogi State which led to the destruction of its 150MVA 330/132/33kV power transformer.
Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer, (PPRO) SP William Ovye Aya in a chat over the development, said the report as being circulated by some section of the media, is false, misleading and should be disregarded by the general public
The Police Spokesperson said the report is the hand work of mischief maker who are determined to create fear and tension among the People in Kogi State.
He urged media organizations to always verify their information from reliable sources before disseminating it to the public.
His words “I called the Divisional Police Officer, (DPO) in charge of Obajana division and he was able to give me the accurate information of what happened on Tuesday night about gunmen attacking the Transmission Company of Nigeria facility in Obajana. It was transformer oil that generate heat and it started leaking.
“There was no vandalization or attack of Transmission Company of Nigeria facility by armed gunmen. The public should disregard the information. It is fake news meant to cause tension and panic among the People”.

General Manager on Pubic Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, had said its 330/132/33kV transmission substation was attacked Tuesday night at Obajana in Kogi State.
She stated that according to reports from security personnel at the site, the assailants opened fire indiscriminately, causing the guards to flee.
During the attack, she claimed that a 150MVA 330/132/33kV power transformer, already positioned on its plinth, was struck, resulting in a burst radiator.
