Terrorists, suspected to be members of Boko Haram, have attacked Jakana Police Station in Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State, killing at least two persons including a policeman.
A source in the area said the terrorists also burnt two patrol vehicles belonging to the police and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force and a motorcycle and some arms and ammunition were carted away by the insurgents.
The Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Nahum Kenneth, reportedly confirmed the attack on Sunday.
He said, “We recorded a foiled attack by unknown gunmen at the police base in Jakana town. The gunmen tried to infiltrate into the police parameters but the efforts of the Police Mobile Force attached to the police station in Jakana were able to repel the gunmen who attempted to overrun them. However, we lost a male police inspector,”
Jakana is about 45km drive from Maiduguri, located along Damaturu-Maiduguri Expressway.
Earlier in May, suspected Boko Haram insurgents, dressed in military uniforms, attacked the Ibrahim Taiwo Police Headquarters, housing the area command and divisional headquarters, along Baga Road in Maiduguri.
The attack was in an attempt to free some of the insurgents members arrested during a drug raid on a black spot at Kasuwan Fara, along Gubio Road.
