The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA)Kogi State Chapter has suspended it’s Chairman, Dr Olusola Baoku for constitutional, administrative and financial infringements.
At an emergency congress held in Lokoja over the weekend, a former Chairman of NMA Dr. David Ayemila told Journalists that a committee has been constituted to hold sway till 11th August, 2024 when election that will produce a new state executives to run its affairs would be conducted.
Ayemila blamed the crisis that affected the Association to the way and manner the suspended chairman handled it’s s affairs.
“Our committee was inaugurated today 13th July 2024 to watch the activities of Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) untill the 11th of August that is next month when a new leadership of the Association would be elected”, Ayemila noted.
Ayemila, stated that the decision for the dissolution of the former State Exco was as a result of their failure to managed the Association well and preventing avoidable challenges which the association was subjected to, adding that, the only way out is to constitute the new interim management committee.
He blamed the inability of the disbanded state officers to organize meetings hence the far reaching decision to have a new organ that will steer the affairs of the Association.
Ayemila implored the members who are seasoned professional doctors to support and cooperate with them to discharge their current assignment with all the vigours it required.
He said “The Congress also empowered the Association of Past chairmen by transmitting all the powers of the State Officers Committee (SOC) to the Committee of Past Chairmen.
“The committee is to ensure that the medical and surgical outreach proposed for Okene holds, including a successful election and Anual General Meeting, (AGM)”.
It could be recalled that under the former Kogi State NMA Chairman Dr Olusola Baoku, seven members of the 2022-2023 exco tendered their resignation letters following the crisis rocking the association.
