Northern Governors went to America for security meeting for three weeks, came back to Nigeria and held another meeting in Kaduna after which they issued a communique signed by Gombe State Governor Inuwa Yahaya in whose state the people are crying for portable water and blackout while he is building a N14 billion Governor’s lodge.
In the communique not even a mention of their US trip and what the states they used their resources stands to gain. Nothing!
The forum expressed sympathy with Katsina, Plateau, Niger, Kaduna over insecurity. Do they need a meeting to do that?
The Northern Governors also said they are worried about the number of out of school children in the North, yet they spent hundreds of millions to travel to the US. Wouldn’t that money be useful for something better ?
The only semblance of good news is that they “Noted the expected role of New Nigeria Development Company (NNDC) on the revitalization of the economy of the Northern states” . Good as it may sound to the ears, what does that mean? Would it be wrong to recapitalize it to build roads, across the zone, develop agricultural programmes and also intervene in education?
What didn’t they talk about Baro port in Niger? Kolmani oil field in Bauchi? Factories in Kano and Kaduna? What about independent power plants?
The lowest of the news is that they dedicated two paragraphs in commending its own leadership. For what? For merely holding meetings.
What is the difference between this forum and the Aluta student union meetings?
Northern Governors must sit up and get serious. The country cannot wait for us.
