Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has introduced measures on to reduce the activities of tricycle and crimes related issues in the state and its environs, as he formally launched the use of QR Code for all tricycle operators in the state.
Governor Mutfwang who was represented by the Commissioner of Transport, Jatau Gyang, disclosed that it was necessary for tricycle riders to go digital to reduced crime rate to the barest minimum in the state.
The launch was held at the premises of Plateau Express Service Limited in Jos North Local Government Council, with the Commissioner saying that the numbers of tricycle operators lining up for the exercise are on the increase .
Jatau said Mutfwang’s commitment to security and safety of the state and its people has made it necessary for the government to know the numbers of tricycles operating within the state.
According to him, the QR Code will help to identify the trycyclists through the scanning of the QR code pasted on wind screen of the affected tricycle, adding that it is mandatory for all tricycles riders operating in the state and it environs to go digital with the use of QR Code and any rider who fails to subscribe to this initiative, has no business in Jos, the state capital.
Mutfwang called on the Tricycle operators who think they can shortchange the computer innovation to better have a rethink and brace up to reality and register so as to be captured, adding that very soon, any tricyclist that fails to register will not be allowed to operate in the state as violators will have their tricycles impounded.
He further said the next phase of the programme would be the digitalization of all the commercial vehicles operating in the state.
At the event, goodwill messages, came from the GM Plateau Express Service Limited, Samuel Bot, GM JMB, Hart Bankat, Federal Road Safety Corps, TRUN, NARTO, NURTW, ACOMORAN, CSOs, and banks, all of whom commended the new scientific innovation which they said will bring serenity and sanity to the operation of tricycles business in the state.
Olisa Ogbechie, who is the initiator of the QR Code and digitalization of tricycles in the state, called for cooperation from the relevant stakeholders to make the scheme seamless in operation
The high point of the event was the pasting of the digitalized QR Code stickers on some selected numbers of tricycles to demonstrate it workability.
