The Commander of the Inspector General of Police Intelligence Squad, Abba Kyari has described as false, unfounded and misleading the news circulating in the country that a notorious kidnap kingpin popularly known as Evans, has escaped from police custody.
A national newspaper had carried a screaming headline on it cover page today: Evans Vanish.
Abba in a telephone conversation said that the kidnapper is still in police custody
The commander also debunked the story in his facebook page.
“Friends, I received over a Thousand Calls this Morning. Pls Disregard the Fake news From a Major Newspaper Today that The Most Notorious Kidnapper in the History of Nigeria Evans in our Custody has vanished.
“It’s a Big Lie. In Accordance with the 90 Days Remand Order from Federal High Court, investigation covering 3 countries is in Progress. Its a False Headline, We can Never Joke with the Security of Nigerians”.
Police sources however said that the suspect has been moved to an unknown destination for safety, to forestall his escape and to stop him from further access to journalists who have been besieging his cell for further information, which the police said may jeopardize his prosecution.
