Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri is trying to restore order in Adamawa State in North East Nigerian, through the declaration of a 24-hour curfew, following widespread looting of warehouses by citizens looking for ‘ palliatives’, to cushion the hardship being experienced by Nigerians since the arbitrary removal of subsidy and continued increase of pump price of petrol by the federal government.
The citizens carted assorted foodstuffs and other valuables during the search for ‘palliatives’.
According to the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Humwashi Wonosikou, in a statement made available to newsmen on Sunday afternoon, the curfew takes effect immediately on Sunday, July 30, 2023.
He said that in addition to raiding warehouses, ” the activities of hoodlums had assumed a dangerous dimension across the state capital city as they attack people with matches and break into private business premises and homes carting away people’s belongings.
“With the curfew imposed, there will be no movement throughout the state,” he declared, adding that Only those on essential duties with valid identification would be permitted to move around during the period of the curfew.
“The Governor is appealing to citizens and residents of the state to comply with the directive,” the statement further said, adding that any person found contravening the order would be arrested and made to face the wrath of the law.
