The People Democratic Party (PDP ) in Plateau State is still mourning 13 of its members who died in an auto crash involving the campaign team of its governorship candidate, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang on Sunday.
Head, Directorate of Media and Publicity, Atiku-Okowa, Mutfwang-Piyo Campaign Council, Plateau State,Yiljap Abraham, who confirmed the accident said the party campaign was returning from the PDP flag off and zonal rally held at Pankshin when their truck crashed on a slope between Pushit and the Panyam bridge in Mangu Local Government Area.
He said 32 of the passengers sustained varying degree of injuries. 21 of them have been taken to NICI Dominus hospital in Mangu, one of them at Nanret clinic Mangu and 10 are at the Jos UniversityTeaching Hospital – JUTH. Two have been adjudged to be in critical conditions with one undergoing emergency surgery at NICI Dominus Hospital.
Plateau Central Senatorial PDP Candidate, Chief . ,Amb. Golkuna Yohanna Gottom has described the accident as a biggest loss to the PDP family .
He also commiserated with the bereaved families and called on supporters and members of the party to see the accident as an act of God.
Amb. Gottom reminded road users across the state to be extra careful while on the roads especially as the electioneering as the dry season make visibility difficult.
On his won part, the governorship candidate of the PDP, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang has described the accident as painful tragedy and monumental loss, describing the victims as they heroes of democracy.
Meantime, the corpses have been removed from the scene and deposited at Allah na Kowa hospital, NICI Dominus Hospital and Mangu Cottage hospital.
The evacuations were coordinated by the Medical Team of the Campaign Council headed by Dr Juryit, some personal staff of the PDP Governorship Candidate Barr Caleb Mutfwang with the aid of many sympathisers.
Barr Mutfwang said of the accident victims “These are indeed gallant soldiers of democracy who gave their all. They are heroes of our democracy, and they deserve that we celebrate them while at the same time comforting their families.
“We assure them that their sacrifices will not go in vain. Their memories must remain ingrained in our minds as true partners of our determined march toward an authentic rescue of our nation and Plateau State.”
The Director-General of the Campaign Council Hon Letep Dabang has expressed profound sadness at the loss of lives and injuries sustained. He prayed for God’s strength for the bereaved families and God’s miraculous healing upon the injured.
