As efforts are ongoing to arrest the perpetrators of the invasion of Ishawo Ikorodu, Lagos leading to the death of a soldier and four police officer including an OPC, Oodua People’s Congress, chieftain in the area, the Yoruba South Socio-Cultural Association (YYSA) has urged the Federal Government to stop the militants from further attack in the future.
In a release jointly signed by YYSA President, Habib Olalekan Hammed and Deputy Director of Publicity, Comrade Hamzat Abass Ayodeji, the association which described South West as the most peaceful region in the country said there is need to protect the territory against any external aggression in order not to export violence to the peaceful region.
Commenting on the just concluded Big Brother Naija television Show, the group appealed to the African Union to enact a law against public immorality for citizens of the member nations.
They believe the television show is against the decency and morality for which Africa is known.
According to them, “Big Brother Naija and Big Brother Africa by Multichoice are means of promoting base values, nudity, and all sorts of moral decadence which are originally alien to our culture in Africa which values human dignity.
“Apart from making money from unsuspecting poor Nigerians who parted with their call cards as they voted for the contestants in the show through SMS, the program publicly devalued other human beings as seen where contestants displayed their nudity and engaged in sexual immorality which could corrupt the minds of our future leaders.
“NBC would have been the appropriate regulating body to checkmate the organizers of the program, but because they are run outside Nigerian boundary, the African Union should enact regulations against such programs for public consumption.”
They also commended the Nigerian Judiciary for a timely unbiased judgment given on the case of abduction of a Yoruba elder statesman, Chief Olu Falae, saying those sent to life jail would serve as deterrents to others that are criminally minded.
