Ajayi earned his first premiership goal with the powerful header
Nigeria International Semi Ajayi headed in a dramatic late equaliser against defending champions Liverpool to put West Brom on the books since Sam Allardyce took charge.
It happened at Anfield in the 83rd minute when the former Charlton Athletic defender took his chance.
The Reds showed their usual spark in the early minutes of the game when a good combination between Cameroonian Joel Matip and, Sadio Mane led to a show piece display by the Senegalese star who chested the ball down before firing a first-time shot past goalkeeper Sam Johnstone. The 12- minute goal, surprisingly, was all the Reds got to show for the game they dominated right from the start to the dying minutes when the 6ft 4 inch defensive midfielder, Ajayi threw spanner in the works
The Baggies’ star hero saw his chance and took it as he rose above heads to head in a well-taken cross from Matheus Pereira past goalkeeper Alisson Becker.
That ‘Christmas’ strike against the Reds, earned the Nigeria international his maiden goal in the English top- flight game. And gave Allardyce something to hope for their Tuesday game with Leeds, considering the club’s 1-1 performance against another top club, Manchester City, in manager Slaven Bilics last game with the Baggies.
West Brom are now five points from relegation
