Members of the Igbo Socio Cultural Association from Orlu West Senatorial zone of Imo state resident in Jos, the Plateau State capital, have called on governments in the country to build and unite the country through the promotion of cultural diversity among Nigerians
Chief Samuel Achi who is t he igwe Osa (1) of Igbo residents in Jos and his people made the call during the yam festival celebration in Rukuba area in Jos North Local Government in the ancient tin city.
Achi said from the beginning of the yam festival celebration “we see peaceful existence amongst us with other Nigerian and I hope this kind of solidarity should be if given priority attention adequate by those in authority .
Chief Achi who was Chairman of occasion performed the rites of eating new yam and explained the new yam festival to the speaking natives of Nigeria is an annual event marked with honour every season of the year.
The National President of Orlu Association, Jos Branch, Chief Fidelis Onwuzurike alias Castro’s said annual celebration of the event helps in building the culture of Igbo race by instilling in the youths the value of communality and hard work.
He said, “We invite friends and well wishers to come together and rejoice with our people that new yam has just been presented before our people for consumption. We have other foodstuffs but our forefathers regarded the yam festival as the most vital of all .
Castro’s said Nigeria is a country with a rich cultural diversity and enjoined the federal and state governments to harness it through tourism as a sources of income generation to the country .
