The Nigerian Navy has decorated 18 Commodores to the two-star flag rank of Rear Admiral.
The Minister of Defence, Rtd Major General Bashir Magashi, who was at the decoration ceremony which held at the Naval Headquarters in Abuja, enjoined the newly promoted Rear Admirals to brace up for the new responsibilities that comes with promotion.
Major General Magashi, who congratulated the new Rear Admirals for attaining another feat in the service, reminded them of the security challenges facing the nation, particularly the Maritime environment and urged them to contribute their quota to the Nigerian Navy’s determination to get rid of every form of criminalities from the maritime domain.
Earlier in a welcome remark at the ceremony, the Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, congratulated the newly decorated senior officers for the deserved promotion, which they earned through hard work and total dedication to the Service, and by extension the nation.
While noting the sudden disruption that came with the year 2020, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas charged the officers to bring their integrity and resourcefulness as senior officers of the Nigerian Navy with the aim of repositioning the service in order to discharge its constitutional role for the security and prosperity of Nigeria.
The decoration ceremony has dignitaries like the Governor of Kebbi State, Atiku Bagudu; Chairman House Committee of the Navy, Hon. Yusuf Gagdi; Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Defence, Mr. Babangida Hussaini; Service Chiefs amongst others.
