Chief Igwe Sam Achi, the National Welfare Official Igbo Socio Cultural Association of Nigeria, Plateau State Chapter, has thanked the Governor Simon Bako Lalong for taking concrete measures to prevent the outbreak of religious crises and intertribal conflict in Jos following the escalation of violence during the #EndSARS protest there.
He appealed to the youths that have taken to violence to express their grievances to cultivate the culture of tolerance and understanding in addressing their plight.
Chief Achi stated this in an interview with our correspondent in Jos, while explaining the lingering crises that hit Jos on Tuesday.
He appealed to the youths to see themselves as future leaders of this country and shun acts that could lead to the death of many innocent citizens as well as the destruction of shops and vehicles.
He said the Igbo community in Plateau state is happy with the prompt action taken by the Governor Simon Lalong to prevent further breakdown of law and order during the protest, which has been hijacked by miscreants.
Achi explained that the stakeholders who attended the meeting held with Governor Simon Lalong came out very happy with measure taken by his government and solicited for total cooperation amongst all and sundry for business activities to resume.
According to him the peaceful protest, which turned violent resulting in the looting of shops and smashing of cars at Terminus Bus Stop, might cause disaffection among the people in the state.
Chief Igwe Sam Achi called on the protesters to clear all the roads and await the result of the judicial enquiries being set up by governments across the country.
He commended the governor for the bold steps he had taken by imposing the curfew in Jos north and Jos south to stem the spread of violence to neighboring states.
