The Senior Special Assistant To Nigerian President on SDG’s, Mrs Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, has charged Nigerians on the need to embrace peace so as to achieve the SDG’s by 2030.
Princess Orelope-Adefulire made the appeal in Abuja at a Retreat for Bureau Chiefs and Senior Editors on achieving the sustainable Development Goals.
She promised to engage and work with the media as a critical stakeholder in achieving the goals.
The Presidential aide on SDG’s commended the Nigerian government for providing palliatives to the people during the period of COVID-19 pandemic that ravaged the world.
According to her, “we must all join hands with the government to build the nation”, stating that goal 16 of the SDG’s emphasised the need for peace, justice and strong institutions.
Princess Orelope-Adefulire noted that the SDG’s are a universal call to action to end poverty and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity by the year 2030.
“The implementation of the SDG’s in Nigeria is in three phases; 1st phase- 2016 to 2020; 2nd phase – 2021 to 2025; 3rd phase – 2026 to 2030.
The administration of President Buhari, according to her, has continued to work with local, state and non state actors to ensure that Nigeria is on track to achieve the SDG’s and be on the path to sustainable growth and development.
“Individuals, families and communities, all have a role to play in the achievement of the SDG’s” Princess Orelope-Adefulire pleaded.
The one day retreat, which was highly interactive, was attended by Senior Editors and Bureau Chiefs from Print, Electronic and Online media.
