Commissioner for Agriculture, Hon. Adedayo Adewole, commissioning Farmkonnect in Wasimi, Ayedire LGA, Osun State on Tuesday
The Osun State Governor, Gboyega Oyetola has unveiled Wave City, the biggest greenhouse facility of its kind in the country, an agricultural real estate facility by Farmkonnect, Nigeria.
Represented by the state Commissioner for Agriculture, Hon. Adedayo Adewole , who commissioned the outstanding agribusiness facility at the project site in Wasimi area in Ayidere local government area, the governor lauded Farmkonnect for bringing the agribusiness initiative to the state, pointing out that the green house facilities is one of the unprecedented and superb initiatives in the state.
Expressing elation on the part of the state to have supported Farmkonnect in making this a reality, the governor maintained that the establishment of the facility which is a confirmation to the government’s promise to support and expand agriculture in the state would help contribute immensely to the growth of the state’s economy, gainfully provide employment to the youths and also increase food security in Osun and other states within the Southwest region and even beyond.
The founder, who doubles as Chief Marketing Officer of Farmkonnect, a retired naval commander, Azeez Oluwole, explained that Wave City is a network of Controlled Farming Agricultural facilities for the production of quality vegetables first for the local market and by extension the international market.
He said Wave City which is situated on a five-million square metres farmland in Wasimi Area , Ayedire Local Government of Osun State, with over one million square metres of green houses and net- houses which would run on pure hydroponic systems and other soil or soil less farming technologies.
He disclosed that facility is planned to produce over 120,000 metric tonnes of fruits and leafy vegetables per annum, adding that the pivot product will not be limited tomatoes, chilies, peppers, garden eggs, cucumbers, lettuce, adding close to two thousand employment opportunities will also be provided when it becomes fully operational.
According to him, agriculture in recent time has gone pass the way it was practiced in the past, as prospective farmers can now have more yield and even earn huge with the use of smart technology, reiterating that Wave City an agricultural real estate will give prospective investors the level playing ground to collaborate towards large scale commercial agriculture, which would otherwise have been impossible for each of the individuals alone.
However, Mr. Azeez who appreciated the present administration in the state of Osun led by Governor Gboyega Oyetola the massive support given to farmkonnect Nigeria in making Wave city a reality, also extended his gratitude to the state commissioner for agriculture, Hon Adedayo Adewole for his open door policy and his encouragement.
