A Jos- based Legal practitioner, Barr C.N.B Dalan has called on the federal government of Nigeria to show respect for the rule of law by making public the trial of the former suspended Economic and financial Crime Commission ,EFCC ,Mr Ibrahim Magu.
The Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, charged the former EFCC boss with insubordination and graft, leading to the setting up of a presidential investigation panel that met and concluded its investigation within the walls of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Barr Daplan said the EFCC boss is a citizen of Nigeria whose pay, like all public officials, comes from the public tax payers and Nigerians have the right to know and even watch live his trial as he was the fulcrum of the administration’s anti-corruption crusade.
He cautioned that “I think that the panel set by Mr President should be impartial by doing the right thing and they should ensure thorough investigation without bias ND at the end of the day every Nigerian would commend their effort.
He stressed that section 36 of the 1999 constitution as amended make it the fundamental organic law of the federal law
Barr Daplan reiterated that the manner in which Magu was removed from office and the setting up panel of investigation by the government “is not acceptable because the probe of the EFCC boss should be transparent. Nigerian are watching. Justice Ayo Salami who headed the investigation panel should ensure that justice is done to him and Nigerians who as tax payers have the right to know the final outcome in a lawful manner.
